SURGERY
At Tongass Veterinary Services we offer a multitude of surgical services. From basic spay and neuter procedures to complex soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, our armamentarium of skills and equipment sets the standard of care at a high level.
Our in house laboratory helps us fully evaluate a patient’s health prior to anesthesia. Your pet’s anesthetic protocol is tailored specific to their individual situation. We utilize consistently safe anesthetic drugs such as alfaxalone and isoflurane gas in general anesthetic procedures. High quality, state of the art anesthetic monitoring equipment helps us ensure a stable patient throughout any procedure. We do not cut corners to save money. We set our patients up for a successful outcome. All surgical patients at Tongass receive endotracheal intubation and intravenous fluid support. Monitoring of vital functions such as blood pressure, ECG, heart and respiratory rates and pulse oximetry during any procedure is mandatory. Surgical suction and electrocautery are routine tools in our OR. Appropriate pain control measures are always taken. Regional anesthesia such as nerve blocks, epidurals, etc. are used whenever possible.
Referral to a board certified surgeon for advanced surgeries is always an option and is always discussed in challenging cases. There are no board certified specialists of any discipline in southeast Alaska.
